Stop Guessing, Confirm if you SMS delivers or not.

With the Do-Not-Disturb feature, you can automatically ignore or block annoying or unwanted calls and SMS. Do-Not- Disturb effectively silences almost all notifications while you aren’t actively using your phone. It also silences all phone calls by default, but you might want your phone to ring when certain important people calls.
How it has affected bulk SMS

With the directive from the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) on do not disturb. It has been enforced on the network providers to implement Do not disturb on all subscribers. In view this, Bulk SMS has been affected and we deliver messages to some network. For some hours, we do not deliver messages to MTN lines, but now resolved.

MTN and other GSM operators are currently working on their SMS delivery to all the numbers. Here is the update for this delivery.

Below is the list of the Delivery status codes returned by the operators and what they mean. To get delivery report for messages sent, kindly check your Outbox from your account

When SMS are sent, Message Delivery Confirmations are returned to the initiating Mobile Phone while deliveries are receipts that indicate status of messages you submitted.

We take out time @websmsng to explain your message status and the delivery code and what they indicate.

SENT: Your message was sent to operator, but yet to get a detailed report from GSM operator.

DELIVERED: Your message was successfully delivered to the recipients’ phone.

UNDELIVERED: Your message was not delivered. The recipient’s phone might be switched off or out of network coverage when sms was sent. Usually, our server retains the message for another 24hrs and tries to deliver the message before it is finally discarded when the phone number is unavailable.

UNKNOWN: Your message was sent but undelivered with no details on the reason for its failure. This unknown error could happen due to GSM operator’s server. This could be because the recipient’s line ported with an error. Attempt to deliver message failed.

  • Handset might be out of network coverage when message delivery was attempted.
  • Handset might be switched off.
  • Handset might be roaming out of carrier’s supported network.
  • The message might have failed due to suspicion of SPAM on the operator network e.g. sender ID relating to financial institutions or government agencies.
  • Random unsolicited messages blocked by the operator
  • Political campaign not permitted by the operator
  • Same message sent to the same phone number repeatedly over a short time
  • Absent phone number. The phone number might have been recycled after a period of no activity
  • Low or no network coverage
  • Battery too low to process incoming message
  • This can also be generated as a result of PORTABILITY error

REJECTED:  The message was rejected most likely because of Do Not Disturb (DND).

  • Subscriber is on the Do-Not-Disturb list
  • The provider could have blocked phone numbers in this range.
  • Message flagged as SPAM (Mass unsolicited messages)
  • Message flagged as SCAM (Messages with potential intent to defraud, defame or threatens social security
  • Faulty or ongoing upgrade on the base station covering the range of the phone number

UNSUPPORTED:

Delivery report is not supported by the route or the operator

Note: Sometimes you might get false positives (i.e. DELIVRD status but no message on the phone when the inbox is full or due to portability issues)

BULK SMS DELIVERY STATUS AND CODES

BULK SMS DELIVERY STATUS AND CODES

Our service for bulk sms users is the best and we like to keep it that way. Our platform and mobile applications are constantly updated to give you excellent delivery of bulk sms.

We take out time to explain your message status and the delivery code and what they indicate.

1. SENT: Your message was sent to operator, but yet to get a detailed report from GSM operator.

2. DELIVERED: Your message was successfully delivered to the recipients’ phone.

3. UNDELIVERED: Your message was not delivered. The recipient’s phone might be switched off or out of network coverage when sms was sent.

Usually, our server retains the message for another 24hrs and tries to deliver the message before it is finally discarded when the phone number is unavailable.

4. UNKNOWN: Your message was sent but undelivered with no details on the reason for its failure. This unknown error could happen due to GSM operator’s server. This could be because the recipient’s line ported with an error.

You know you could call someone’s phone number right next to you and you get ” The number you have dialed is switched off” or “not available” response. That’s a network problem.

5. REJECTED:  When you see this status, it means the recipient’s number has subscribed for DND (Do Not Disturb), especially MTN numbers. To unsubscribe from DND services, please click here.

Bulk SMS – 5 Big Benefits

When speaking to new and potential customers at WEBSMS NG we are often asked what are the benefits of using a bulk SMS service as opposed to the many other forms of marketing that exist. Until now we always stated the benefits as we perceived them and they were generally along the lines of cost effectiveness and speed. However we recently decided to perform a poll, on a sample of our existing customers, to get it straight from them what they felt were the main benefits. Here are the results in no particular order.

1. Open Rates

98% of all SMS messages are opened and read by the recipient, and on average within five seconds. That alone sounds impressive but when compared to the 20% average open rates of email it’s even better. Not to mention the fact that of those 20% of e-mails that are actually opened the average open time on these is about forty eight hours. So if you want to make sure that your message is seen by the highest percentage of people in your marketing database – choose SMS every time.

2. Speed and Flexibility

All businesses should be geared to react to the fluidity of the modern business world, as flexibility and adaptability are key to reacting to the ever changing market conditions. With the virtual zero lead time in bulk SMS marketing, campaigns can be conceived of and delivered to their target audience in a matter of minutes. This can be used to drive footfall on a slow day or clear old stock ahead of new deliveries. A bulk SMS service such as that offered by WEBSMS NG, allows businesses to immediately respond to the events of the day or to a competitor’s promotions almost instantaneously.

3. Low Cost and High ROI

Newspaper ads, TV commercials and almost all forms of outdoor advertising are cost prohibitive for most small to medium sized businesses. Bulk SMS marketing on the other hand has such low set up and running costs that campaigns can be launched and executed for a tiny fraction of costs associated with the more traditional marketing methods. Where else can you contact 1000 customers in a matter of seconds for as little as €30?

With this cost effectiveness and high return in investment, bulk SMS marketing is an almost essential marketing tool for any modern SME.

4. Highly Targeted

The days when business owners and marketing managers could send out marketing messages into the ether in the hope that they would land on their target audience are over. For any company with even one eye on costs, it’s now essential that every marketing message is as highly targeted as possible. As bulk SMS marketing is permission based everyone who receives a message will –

a) already have a relationship with you, and;
b) have agreed to receive marketing messages from you.

These two facts means that these targets are already customers as well as being hot leads for new sales. It’s an accepted fact that it’s between 5 to 7 times easier to resell to existing customers than to gain a new customer and a bulk SMS service is the perfect way to market to existing customers.

5. Personalisation

SMS messages can be personalized to the recipient and delivered to their pockets within seconds. They can also be personalized based on the customer’s previous buying behavior and demographics. They can even be location based as well as individually sculpted based on different stores and different regions of the country. To try and achieve this level of personalisation in any other form of marketing would be a very costly exercise. With bulk SMS however, it can be done for almost no extra cost as well as having a uniquely powerful impact on the recipient.

Five Tips for Better Text-Message Marketing

Five Tips for Better Text-Message Marketing

Connecting with consumers when they’re on the go is more important than ever, and text message marketing (also referred to as SMS, or short message service marketing) can be a highly effective technique.

But the proliferation of mobile devices doesn’t guarantee marketing success. If your pitches don’t resonate with consumers and motivate them to act, then your efforts are for naught.

Here are five tips for writing marketing texts that get read and produce results:

1. Be brief and focused.
Your text message should be laser focused and succinct. There’s no room for fluff in mobile marketing. Know who your target audience is and speak directly to it. Leave out extraneous details and simply describe how to take advantage of your offer and its benefits.

2. Avoid hype, slang and abbreviations.
If your text message looks like spam, consumers will delete it without a second thought. It’s critical that you leave out anything that might seem too slick and promotional. That includes marketing hype like “amazing” offers, slang and text abbreviations, all of which cheapen the perception of your brand and can destroy your campaign.

3. Offer something of immediate value.

No one wants to receive texts from a company unless the messages offer something of immediate value. Because text messaging is an instantaneous medium, you should include real-time offers. Whether you’re providing information about a sale or a new product, the message should describe the benefits of acting now.

4. Identify yourself.
How often have you received a text that doesn’t identify the company or brand? Instead, you often see a phone number you don’t recognize and a vague message that could have come from any number of companies. And how often have you simply deleted those anonymous messages? It’s essential that you clearly identify your business or brand to avoid getting the spam treatment.

5. Make consumers feel special.
Don’t clutter consumers’ text message inboxes with offers and news they could easily get from your website or your brick-and-mortar locations. Instead, make recipients of your texts feel they’re special and have qualified for an exclusive promotion. Otherwise, they will most likely opt out of receiving any future texts from you.

Examples of Mobile Marketing Texts

Here are a few sample texts to help you avoid mistakes and write an effective marketing message:

Bad Example 1: Amazing prices at www.abcbags.com almost 2G2BT. Miss these prices AYOR.

Bad Example 2: Hey! Did you see this sale? www.abcbags.com. Gotta get your bag before it’s too late.

Both texts include the hype, abbreviations and slang that can hurt your campaign.

Now, look at some good examples:

Good Example 1: 50% off all leather laptop bags at www.abcbags.com for the next 48 hours only. Use coupon code HALFOFFTEXT at checkout.

Good Example 2: ABC Bags 50% off leather laptop bags through 3/31/12. Show this message to store manager to get half off. Find a store: www.abcbags.com/locations.

Notice in each example that the offer is succinctly stated, with a clear call-to-action. Each text also provides a sense of value, timeliness and exclusivity. The messages create a sense of urgency, which people would expect from a text.

Remember that finding the right messages for your audience will take time and experimentation. But the tips and examples above should help you achieve your goals of getting noticed and making some sales.

Powerful SMS Marketing Ideas

Powerful SMS Marketing Ideas

SMS marketing continues to be one of the most powerful ways to get in touch with your target audience. The ability to reach your customers on a device that they always have with them is invaluable. But here’s the challenge that many small businesses are running into. They aren’t sure how to best utilize this innovative marketing channel to get a solid ROI and grow their company.

The idea of SMS marketing sounds amazing on paper, but unless you’re able to create an effective strategy and execute it correctly, you’re going to lose out on a huge opportunity.

If you’ve been looking for inexpensive ways to market your small business with SMS marketing, give these five strategies a try.
1. Flash discounts

There’s nothing better than getting an alert on your phone and finding out that you just got a text message with a discount code out of the blue. One of the companies well known for sending out spontaneous discounts through SMS is Redbox. The movie/video game rental kiosks send out occasional rent one get one free or completely free rental discount codes to customers that opt-in.

The movie/video game rental kiosks sent out a text message to subscribers encouraging them to click on a link to be taken to a scratch-off surprise deal. Once the subscriber clicks on the link, he is brought to a mobile Web site. Subscriber should then run his finger across the screen to scratch away the surface and to reveal a mobile coupon underneath.

You can implement a similar strategy for your small business by sending out discount codes at random times, for no special occasion. It keeps your company in the minds of your customers, and gives them a reason not to unsubscribe from your mobile marketing list.

The key to this strategy is to only have these deals accessible for mobile subscribers. That will give people even more of an incentive to join your list.
2. Appointment reminders

If you own a salon, spa or any other type of business where customers make appointments, then this strategy needs to be implemented ASAP. No-shows mean lost revenue, and businesses lose millions every year from customers who miss appointments without cancelling. And the worst part is that it could be easily avoided.

The mistake that a lot of businesses make, and you might be too, is relying on sending out email appointment reminders. But there are some key issues with that:

  • Most email marketing campaigns have less than a 30% open rate .
  • The average person receives over 100 emails per day .
  • People tend to open emails and then just forget about them.
  • It takes the average person 90 minutes to respond to an email .

Essentially, there is a very strong chance that your reminder emails are being overlooked.

Start getting your customers to opt-in to receive mobile appointment reminders and you’ll notice that the number of missed appointments you get will start to drop.
3. Do a weekly tip

This strategy combines SMS marketing and content marketing. Content marketing is an inbound technique that focuses on providing your audience with free value to get them to know, like and trust you. After providing your audience with so much value, they’ll be more likely to choose your services over a competitor.

You can start sending out a weekly tip via text message to people who have opted in. The tip should be something that’s related to your industry and is helpful. Remember, keep the tips short and brief (160 characters or less). For instance if you’re a dentist one of your weekly tips might be “Eat an orange today to get your Vitamin C in. Vitamin C helps prevent gum disease!”

4. Text message sweepstakes

Have you ever seen a “text to win” contest on Facebook or on a commercial? Text message sweepstakes are sweeping the mobile marketing industry. People just have to text a word or phrase to a short code, and then they’re entered for a chance to win a prize. This helps you build your subscriber list, and engages with your target customer.

 Powerful SMS Marketing Ideas

Text message sweepstake are great because they’re very quick to enter and people can enter from virtually anywhere, just by sending out a text.

5. Offer in-store deals

If you run a brick and mortar small business, then use SMS marketing as a tool to get people in the doors. Send out a message along the lines of “Get 10% off your meal when you show your waiter this text!”

This will help get return customers coming in, and it’s also a good indicator of how active and engaged the people currently subscribed to your mobile list are.

If nobody is coming in to claim the deals, then that’s a sign that you need to do more to kick your list into high gear. If you notice that multiple people are claiming the deal, then you know you’re on the right track.

These are five of the most powerful and inexpensive ways to market your small business with SMS marketing. Start putting them into action to help gain new customers as well as retain your existing ones!
